  • PUBLIC ANNOUNCEMENT

My computer is going. Unless a miracle happens (and God knows there's no such thing as those!), I will be shutting off my internet service. I've just lost ALL audio--not just the internet now, but all my media players are gone completely. I've lost system restore, this morning my computer dumped all my browser files, my computer is slowing down...and just doing all sorts of funky things. Sometimes it'll go nearly the whole day without issues, some days it's just issue after issue after issue. And, I can't handle the stress, quite frankly.

So, on or around 1st to 14th September I will no longer have anything more to do with this internet. It's not worth it anymore.

I haven't decided if I will completely delete this and all other of my blogs. That is something I must consider.

Just be aware that you may happen to not find me on here one day.

Thanks all for reading my blog and group. I deeply appreciate that everyone took time out of their busy day to come here. Take care, N.

  • Odd street names

  • Hey Corinth

    Hello Corinth, NY.

    Do me a favour please?

How 'bout introducing yourself? How's the re-building of those lost businesses going? What's new downtown? Is the Family Dollar and Dollar General still there? How was the fireworks this year?

If you know me and are a co-worker or former neighbour (S & J W ???)--or just want to meet a former resident--great town, Corinth, nice folks there--, please, don't be shy, say hello!

I enjoyed (most of) my time in Corinth, always nice to stay in touch.

...or if you are merely snooping, please show some class and mind your own business, yeah? Thanks.

  • The 250 dollar cab fare--to go less than five miles!

A man was arrested last night, in this city, for doing a runner from a local cabbie.

The man took a cab from the neighbouring town of Hudson Falls, to a Glens Falls convenient store--a trip of around 4 miles. Once at the store, the fare indicated to the cabbie that he was just running into the store for a quick purchase, then, shortly after entering the shop, the fare bolted out the door again.

The cabbie gave chase, but lost sight of the man. The cab driver pulled over and telephoned city police to report the incident. Agreeing to meet police back at the shop where the incident occurred, the cabbie instantly noticed his wayward fare, back inside the convenient store. Pointing the runner out to the police, the police then arrested the man for theft of services, a misdemenor. The man was taken to the city jail, and borrowed $250 from a friend, in order to post his bail. He is on release pending a hearing before the city judge. It is not know how much the fare was, but from my general knowledge the one-way fare to Hudson Falls normally costs aroud $7.

  • Seriies Five Spoiler! Tardis being replaced!

In an effort for the BBC to show that it too, cares about global warming, Dr Who producers have decided that the Tardis' chameleon circuit will finally be repaired. In the opening episode in 2010, it is rumoured that we can look forward to a seeing the Tardis being changed into a Toyota Prius, a pony trap, David Cameron's bicycle and a nuclear reactor.

  • Windows system volume gone--how do I get it back?

I don't know what firefox did to my computer, but apparently it KILLED my abiltity to listen to the internet. I no longer have a windows system volume control! I mean, it's there, but it's not there--I can see it, but it is basically dead--won't allow me to click on anything.

How do you restore it, anyone know?

  • Oh man!!! I am NOT a pot-head! But now people will think I am...

There goes my rep...I signed up for this website's forum to see if someone could help me with my Firefox plug-in demolition issue...then found out too late that it was a drug (pot) promotion website, offering seeds for sale and growing tips. Yikes! S_it. :(

Not an issue for some of you out there, but I'm actually a bit proud that I've never been tempted--hate the smell, hate what it does to people...and, perhaps, it's my independent streak--I just simply prefer to stay in control, and also to naturally be happy or mellow, without any chemical assistance.

(Basically, tho' I rarely--if ever, look down on people who smoke pot, neither do I want anything to do with it.)

There is apparently no way to un-register for this website, either. I'm stuck there forever, the straight-laced old maid among the pot-heads.

Damn, now where'd I leave my roach clip....

  • WOW!

I was expecting just a little mundane fireworks display--been watching fireworks for something like 40 years, so I am a bit jaded about it, I suppose. But this was....INCREDIBLE! No, really, it was really fantastic.

Usually, you are made to stand well back from fireworks, but these were being set off less 100 feet from the crowd, and I was literally standing right practically underneath them...so close we were sometimes getting slightly peppered with floating ash and paper debris. And it was...simply amazing. I have never been that close to a display before.

I met these two nice ladies from Boston, and we sat together and chatted a bit, and even they were impressed--and Boston, being one of America's founding cities, has some really spectacular fireworks in its own right, on Independence Day--usually nationally televised by the Public Broadcasting Service, and accompanied by the world renowned Boston Pops Orchestra. So, for these ladies to be impressed, really speaks to how well it was done.

I never did get to see the "volcano," must have taken it down before I got there. There was a pretty good live band, though, and some geeky looking fella standing between two buildings, playing a keyboard and singing old fashioned Hawaiian songs, and on the main street was a DJ and an impromptu dance floor--which seemed to be mostly being used by kids. There were the usual bouncy castles and popcorn and souvenier stands in the park. A beer wagon was set up near the live band, and there was a smoothie stand and a lunch wagon selling pork dishes, as well as the usual overpriced hot dogs and hamburgers that one finds at these events.

But, the fireworks were really amazing.
Anyway, the fireworks were really quite lovely, with tons of shooting streamers, star-bursts and standard fireworks--and just when you thought it was over, they'd set off a new round, that was even more impressive.

  • Well, time for a little R & R!

I put dinner on hold. I WAS hungry, now, after a quick hoover of the the living room rug, suddenly I'm not hungry any more. Go figure!

So, fireworks coming up downtown in about an hour or so. I missed the Tiki dancers, but will still catch the volcano. thought I'd freshen up and take a stroll, have dinner when I get back (or, save it for tomorrow night).

Listening the Ultimate Kylie CD that a good friend passed on to me. I'd never heard of her before Dr Who--and they don't sell her in any of the department stores, nor in our sole record/video store. (showing my age, still call them "records")

I CANNOT get back my audio on the internet. Guess it's gone forever. Sure as shootin' I can't afford to pack my tower off to anyone--besides the fact that my ethernet cable is stuck. I cannot unplug it to save my life! I'm afraid of damaging my computer if I yank too hard.

Damn arthritis! That's what I get for being a tomboy/stablebum for so many years...too much time out in the bitter cold without gloves. Yeah, I was one of those youthful, "fifteen below zero! (F) Ha! I don't need gloves and a jacket!" types. Actually I did have a remarkable tolerance for the sub-zero cold, when I was younger. Of course, the downside is that I have an equally remarkable intolerance for the heat.

I don't quite have that cold intolerance any longer, mind you. Still, with the right gear, I can take any cold life throws at me--I've lived without heat and hot water in -20 F weather...not a pleasant experience--okay, it was utterly miserable, but obviously I did survive. Maybe now some of you might understand better when I state that I'd rather be dead than homeless, though.

Well, I'm going to dress and go for a walk. Have a lovely night, my friends.

IT'S COMING! Closer, and closer....as the summer wains here in New York's north country, this is what we have to look forward to for months on end:
