Evening all,
@ 03/07/2008 – 03:58:56 pm
Arrrgh! I gotta' say that I do really, really hate mozilla. EVERY time they force an upgrade on me, my computer starts messing up. Now my cursor keeps bogging down, or disappearing altogether, and my pages are getting so slow slow I feel like I have dial-up instead of high-speed. Wasn't doing this before, just since Mozilla foisted one of their stinking upgrades on me.
Do you how hard it is to write, when your cursor isn't working properly?
Anyway, off to work now. Feeling better...just wish this blasted cursor would stop disappearing on me, and freezing up. Oh well, being that I've no clue how to dump Mozilla, nor what to replace it with, guess I'm stuck.
I've got to do something with a virus scan I guess...not the first time Mozilla has giving my computer a bug.
Off for a night of telemarketing to Bush/gun lovers...perfect way for a liberal to spend an evening, ey? Oh well, it pays for my internet service and food and medicine and stuff. Any port in a storm...and, at least I'm not cleaning loos.
Got chapter for of Dark Holiday partly started. I want this to be a good story, as it's (probably) going to be the last Dr Who fan-fic I'll ever post to my Wordpress blog--maybe will ever write again. So sad that one bad episode could take so much of the joy away from me. Tennant and Davies really...oh, never mind. I won't hold a grudge against them, but it doesn't mean I have to like and respect them as much as I did before (not that it would ever matter to those two, what someone like me thinks of them).
I have to go, but want to wish you all a nice evening. Looks like the rain's clearing, so maybe we might have a nice holiday weekend, afterall...tho' I have to work all day, Saturday.

Doctor What??? You CAN'T kill Sarah Jane!!! I HATE Russell T Davies.
@ 03/07/2008 – 02:59:56 pm
I was reading an online ezine, about show business news, and NOW the rumour is that it's LIZ SLADEN slated to get the chop!
I hate what RTD has done! This isn't funny, this isn't cute, this isn't...Doctor Who. Not MY Doctor Who. I HATE cheap chav ratings tactics!
I mean, a little bit of a cliff-hanger is what Who is all about...but this isn't a cliff hanger...this is a JOKE.
RTD has DELIBERATELY upset fans just...because he can, which is just...demeaning to me.
I really do feel demeaned by this. This is WHY I don't watch television. I refuse to be a sucker. I won't be taken in by lies and scams and cheap titlation, just so some rich, obnoxious producer in a suit can get some cheap thrills by messing with us fans.
I thought RTD was a better person than that, but no. He's just like all the rest of them, and I won't be made a fool of, and I won't play into this....garbage.
Doctor Who sucks, now, and NOT that he or Tennant will ever care, but I will NEVER forgive them for what they did. They took the ONE positive thing in my life and carelessly stomped all over it.

Looks like we got us a CONVOY!!!
@ 03/07/2008 – 01:57:15 pm
This is the song that spurred on the CB (citizen's band radio) craze in the late 1970's, in America. I was almost a trucker once. I was a trucking permit agent, and my sister dated a trucker, and so did I. Truckers are...interesting...people.

Keep them big wheels rollin'? Not if disel prices keep climbing...
@ 03/07/2008 – 01:55:19 pm
America depends on trucks.
OTR (over the road) truckers are the number one way we move goods inside this nation, followed by rail freight, then more distantly by ship or barge, and even more distantly by air.
Many "big rig" or "18 wheeler" truckers are affiliated with major trucking company's like, Schnider National Lease (whom I almost went to work for, but got talked out of), and J.B. Hunt, Swift, loads of others.
But, many more truckers work as independents...they buy their own trucks, fuel, state permits, etc., out of their own pockets. And these men and women, are really starting to go under with the high cost of diesel fuel.
Truckers that were making $40,000 to $90,000 a year a short while ago, are now making as little as $20,000 to $40,000 a year, and showing either no profit or huge losses. Some truckers aren't even making $20,000, but are basically going bankrupt just trying to pay for diesel fuel.
New York state is notorious for its high taxes. Gas (petrol) in neighbouring New England states averages as much as 10 to 15 cents less a gallon, only because of lower taxes placed on that fuel.
(Which is why I often drove to my school in Vermont, from my home in the Adirondacks on a low tank of gas--so I could gas up in Vermont and save 10 cents on every dollar of fuel I pumped.)
Anyway, truckers were fed up with working hard and not having anything to show for it (oh boo-hoo, welcome to the low-wages club boys, have a ball.)
So, the truckers convoyed to my birthplace of Albany, NY, to march on the state capital building.

Davros or Bush?
@ 03/07/2008 – 12:59:06 pm
If you had to come face-to-face with someone in a dark alleyway, whom would you prefer to meet:
DAVROS, the evil creator of the Daleks:

Or, George W. Bush, the most unscrupulous moron the free world has ever known:

To answer my own question, I believe that cowardly idiots are more dangerous than crazy geniuses, so I go with Davros.

Eyes...
@ 03/07/2008 – 12:12:35 pm
Gah--I need new glasses...can't afford to have my eyes done. Can't see small print any longer, and dim light...forget it.
Now, that's the strange thing about my marginal night blindness...I'm actually better able to see in the relative dark, than I can see in dim-low light conditions. Turn out the lights at night, and within seconds I can manage just fine. Put me in a dimly lit hallway or something of that nature...blind as a bat--and I do mean, blind. As in totally. It only lasts for less than 30 seconds, as a rule, and I've learned to cope, still...that doesn't bother me half as much as not being able to see what I'm typing.
Sometimes I can magnify the print...but sometimes I can't, and...bugger! It's frustrating, realizing that you've messed up your lead or something that you've typed, with a stupid mistake.
Oh well, my great gran was completely blind, apparently, and my great Aunt Mary, as well. My dad's mum was a deaf mute, so who am I to fuss over a little inconvenience?

If stranded on an island, you would have:
5 Albums only on your i-pod/mp3 player
I have only seen an I-pod once in my whole life. I have an old-fashioned record player, a portable DVD/CD player, and my computer, so I will just list my choices, assuming I'd be using a portable CD player:

John Denver, Windsong5 Items of clothing

Morning all
@ 03/07/2008 – 09:09:14 am
I finally roused myself out of bed. Hard trying to sleep last night, what with all the furniture banging and stuff over my head from the boys upstairs, and kids on the street setting off firecrackers (It IS Forth of July week, going to get noisier and noisier for the next few days)., well..sleep was a long time coming for me.
Woke to some spammer trying to sell things in my comments section. I reported her to the blog, and flagged her blog as inappropriate. First one in a while, so I guess I shouldn't complain.
So, have to go test my kidneys's soon. It's not looking good, I'm afraid. But, it's not looking bleak, either. Basically, there's two possible scenerios: 1. My kidneys might be just starting to go into shut-down, or 2., the infection has spread to the kidneys, which is totally treatable and can be resolved. Well, at least with kidney failure, I know EXACTLY what will happen, step-by-step, having watched mum go through it. I would rather it be that than cancer or ALS or something like that, that I'm not as familiar with.
A bit of a gloomy day, here on my side of the pond. Not a rousing start for the big holiday weekend. But at least it's cool and comfortable.
I wish I could get my appetite back, my stomach is telling me it's time to eat, but I don't want to. Guess I'll try to force down some honey-nut shredded wheat or some toast and apricot jam or something like that.
Have a good day, all.

God bless you Harvey, we'll miss you...
@ 02/07/2008 – 11:59:04 pm
Just found out about the passing of actor and comic, Harvey Korman, best known for his part as Tim Conway's straight man and foil, on television's Carol Burnett Show, Korman was also a standard player, in many a Mel Brook's film, including Blazing Saddles and Spaceballs. His wit, wonderful expressions and timing, will be missed by comedy lovers everywhere.
