Grains of sand, ashes and dust

I was rummaging through my drawers in my dresser, last night, looking for something, when I found a marking pen that I'd forgotten I'd had. "Permanent" Marker.

As I'm sitting here eating breakfast (cold cereal, hard boiled egg and cranberry juice), and trying to type around a very large fat cat (Charilie) that's in my lap, kneeding my tummy, I got to thinking.

Is anything in this world, truly permanent? Honestly forever?

The universe is forever changing, never standing still, always creating and destroying and then doing it all over again...will that marker ink really stay forever? Is anything forever? Having seen them up close, I can say, even the great Pyramids of Egypt, will, one day, millions of years from now, most likely return to the dust. Even the most solid of stone, the most towering of mountains, crumbles with time.

Our lives are fleeting, mere grains of sand, thrown into life's wind. Here today, gone tomorrow. Some will be long remembered, others, forgotten days after their passing, but, in the end, six feet of earth, a pile of ashes, makes us all the same.
